Q. How do I bring up the Settings
dialog box?
Double click on the main multiDesk
icon on the taskbar, or press <key modifiers>+UP. If your key
modifiers are CTRL+ALT, then you should press CTRL+ALT+UP.
Q. multiDesk hid my taskbar. What
do I do?
This is really a Windows bug (it
happens with the Show Desktop icon too if the icon is not on the
taskbar). When this happens, press <key modifiers>+UP to bring up
the settings dialog box. In the general settings, press the Rescue
Windows button. It should bring back your taskbar, along with all those
hidden windows. If it does not work the first time, repeat a second
time.
Q. My explorer just crashed. What
do I do to bring back the hidden windows?
After your explorer crashed, all
the taskbar icons disappear, so you can no longer access multiDesk with
the mouse. Use <key modifiers>+UP to bring up the settings dialog
box. Press the OK button, and multiDesk will bring back the taskbar
icons.
Q. I type an alias on the Run
Command, but nothing happened.
Two possibilities. One is that you
typed extra space somewhere. The second possibility is that you have not
restarted your computer since your first run of multiDesk. On your first
run of multiDesk, multiDesk set up the environment variables so the Run
Command can run properly. However, these settings will only take effect
after reboot.
Q. What does multiDesk do to my
system?
The following things:
- append the shortcut directory
to your path, so even the Windows Run Command can share the enhanced
capability of multiDesk Run Command
- add an entry in your registry,
to save the settings. The settings are under: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TechSuperior\multiDesk
- add a shortcut to your Start Up
menu, if you choose the option.
All these things do not affect
your system in anyway, and can be easily removed.
Q. Does multiDesk slow down my
system?
My system seems to run as fast as
before. multiDesk is only activated when you use the mouse or hotkey to
switch between your desktops. For the rest of the time, multiDesk is
sleeping and idle, so it should not burden your CPU at all. It does not
place hooks in your system, so it does not make your system less
efficient. It can actually boost your system performance by avoiding
refreshing windows not on the current desktop. But that's just in
theory, I have no proof.
Q. What is this <key
modifiers>+UP thingy?
It allows users to bring up the
settings dialog box by hotkey. If your key modifiers are set up to be
CTRL+ALT, then you can bring up your settings dialog box by pressing
CTRL+ALT+UP. This feature allows users to access the Run Command easily.
Also, Explorer crashes, but multiDesk does not crash. In this situation,
you can use <key modifiers>+UP to bring back your multiDesk
taskbar icons.
